Life of Irrfan Khan
Saahabzaade Irfan Ali Khan, well known as Irrfan Khan was born 7th January 1967 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, to a Muslim Pathan family. His mother, Begum Khan, was from the Tonk Hakim family, and his father, Jagirdar Khan, was from the Khajuriya village. Irrfan was studying for his MA when he earned a scholarship to National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi in 1984.
Irffan Khan moved to Mumbai, where he acted in numerous television serials. He Acted in Chanakya, Bharat Ek Khoj. Also Sara Jahan Hamara, Banegi Apni Baat, Chandrakanta, Shrikant Doordarshan, Anoo Goonj on Doordarshan and Sparsh. Earlier, he had acted in a teleplay on Doordarshan named Laal Ghaas Par Neele Ghode where he played Lenin.
On 23 February 1995, Irrfan married writer and fellow NSD graduate Sutapa Sikdar. They have two sons, Babil and Ayan.
His first Bollywood lead role came in 2005 with film Rog. His performance was praised by critics. In 2004 he won the Filmfare Best Villain Award for his role in film Haasil. Having a body of work of more than eighty films in India, he has a remarkable list of films. This embarked the beginning of a new definition of entertaining cinema in India. Paan Singh Tomar, Haasil, Life In A Metro, Maqbool, The Lunchbox, Piku and Talvaar.
In the west he has many films like The Namesake (2006), New York, I Love You (2008) and A Mighty Heart (2007). He also did The Darjeeling Limited (2007), The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), Life of Pi (2012). Jurassic World (2015) as well as in the HBO series In Treatment (2008). Also, his two upcoming international projects: Dan Brown’s Inferno (2016) and a Japanese American TV series.
In September 2015, he was appointed as the brand ambassador for “Resurgent Rajasthan”, a campaign by the state of Rajasthan. He lent his voice to the light and sound show at the war memorial for the Indian army at Vidhan Sabha Road, Jaipur. This show portrays the valour and courage of the Rajasthani soldiers and their triumphs in battle from olden days till today.
He has won three Filmfare Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and an Independent Spirit Award nomination in 2011. The actor has received a national award for best actor award in 2012 for his film Paan Singh Toma, he became a recipient of the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India.
In February 2018, Khan was diagnosed with undisclosed disease and it was speculated by many media outlets that he has “brain cancer”. On March 16, 2018, Khan announced through a Twitter post that he is suffering from Neuroendocrine tumor. Irrfan said on 16th March 2018 that he will be travelling abroad for his treatment. This was later confirmed by his spokesperson after ten days that he already has.
