5 Salad Dressings You Should Know
A salad is only as good as the dressing on it as that and the salad ingredients combined make for a delicious, flavorful mouthful. In this post we list 5 dressings that every expert salad maker must know.
A Classic Vinaigrette
Not to be confused with vinegar, vinaigrette is a basically a mix of vinegar and oil with salt and pepper to taste. Now you can sub the vinegar for balsamic vinegar or apple cider vinegar or use oils like olive, sunflower, etc etc. The basic recipe is 1 part vinegar to 3 parts oil and season to taste. As for add-ins the world is your, well, salad – add herbs, cheese, ginger, garlic, honey, mustard – anything you fancy that would be perfect in your basic vinaigrette.

3. Ranch Dressing

4. Thousand Island Dressing
Thousand Island Dressing is everyone’s favorite mixture of mayonnaise and ketchup. Make your own by mixing amounts of mayonnaise, ketchup, jalapenos, onions, vinegar, garlic, salt and Tabasco sauce – adjust each as you like. Makes a great sauce for Singaporean Rice too.
5. Italian Salad Dressing
This is the dressing that looks most attractive with the herbs and spices floating in the mixture. The dressing is a delicious mix of vinegars, oil and mustard and enhanced with onions, oregano and red pepper flakes. A basic recipe has the following ingredients:
Canola oil or any other neutral salad oil White vinegar Red grape vinegar Garlic Onion Capsicum Dijon mustard Honey Salt and Pepper to Taste Oregano Red pepper flakes
Mix in a jar, shake until mixed together and store in the fridge. Use 2-4 tablespoons on your salad.
