How to Elevate Store Cupboard Foods to Gourmet Greatness
The ease of convenience foods cannot be denied but one has to admit they taste bland sometimes or are extremely lacking in nutrition. Here are 3 easy upgrades you can make to convenience food when you just don’t have the time to make fresh but also crave deliciousness.
Add herbs and seasonings to bottled tomato sauce.
We have made an excellent tomato sauce right here but when you must use the bottled stuff, elevate the flavor by adding dried herbs, brown sugar, salt and pepper. These additions will make your jarred sauce taste close to a homemade sauce.
2. Turn your instant noodles into a chow mien.
Chop some carrots, capsicum and cabbage or if you are really in a pinch, use one of those salad packets that came with your BBQ order (tried and tested). Make the instant noodles as you normally would and drain the soup base. Toss in your vegetables, add in some soy sauce and voila! you have a delicious chow mien made from bits and bobs.
3. Use canned chick peas to make a delicious snack
Canned chickpeas aren’t the best for you but you can turn them into an excellent snack. Spread a can of drained, rinsed chickpeas out on a baking tray, sprinkle salt, chili powder and garlic powder on the chickpeas. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes, turning them around halfway so they bake evenly. When they are crisp and golden, pack them up and enjoy as a snack.
