Sandwich Series 2 – Mediterranean Gyro with Tzatziki Sauce

Today we have a delicious Mediterranean Gyro recipe made with tender chicken spiced with a homemade Mediterranean seasoning mix and served with a refreshing Tzatziki sauce. With crunchy vegetables and brown pita, this is the perfect lunch to keep you on your health goals.

Mediterranean Gyro with Tzatziki Sauce

Serves 1


For the Mediterranean seasoning
  • 2 tblsps dried rosemary
  • 1 tblsp dried oregano
  • 1 tblsp ground cumin
  • 1 tblsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp cinammon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
For the Tzatziki sauce
  • 1 cucumber, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup cold plain yogurt
  • 2 tsps minced garlic
  • ⅓ cup chopped dill
  • 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
For the gyro
  • 1 chicken breast
  • 1 tblsp olive oil
  • Onion rings
  • Capsicum strips
  • Pita bread


  1. Mix the Mediterranean spice mix ingredients in a bowl. Set aside.
  2. Put all the tzatziki ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour in a bowl and set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add the chicken. Coat both sides with a teaspoon of the spice mix. Cook on 5 minutes per side till chicken is done and slice it into strips.
  4. Assemble the gyro by layering onions, capsicum and chicken on one side of the pita bread. Pour over the tzatziki sauce, fold the pita and enjoy! You can toast the gyro in the toaster for a crispier bite.
